During treatment, the electrophysiological effects of galvanic current on skin are applied. Two active electrodes become connected to the body which are located in separate tanks filled with water. During treatment, the therapeutical current migrates from one electrode to the direction of the other. The most obvious explanation for the effect is that chlorine ions in tap water decrease the production of perspiration in the perspiratory glands.
